Charles Towne Montessori has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1972. Originally accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), our school has upheld the highest standards of Montessori education for decades, offering a deeply authentic Montessori experience. In recent years, the global pandemic presented unique challenges, including a shortage of AMI-certified educators due to disruptions in training institutions and the wider education sector.

In response to these challenges and to widen our pool of qualified Montessori educators, Charles Towne Montessori has transitioned to seeking accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS). As of May 1, 2024, we are proud to announce that we have achieved the status of an AMS Verified School. This change allows us greater flexibility in staffing, permitting us to hire both AMI and AMS trained teachers, thereby enriching our educational offerings and ensuring continuity in delivering high-quality Montessori education.

We anticipate receiving full AMS accreditation within the next year and a half. This transition not only broadens our ability to maintain excellent educational standards but also ensures that we continue to adapt and thrive in a changing educational landscape. We are excited about this new chapter in our school’s history and remain committed to providing an exceptional Montessori education to all our students.

The American Montessori Society (AMS) is a leading advocate for quality Montessori education, setting a high standard for schools and educators around the world. AMS provides a robust framework for educational practices that blend the traditional Montessori approach with contemporary methods, ensuring a dynamic and inclusive educational experience. By aligning with AMS, Charles Towne Montessori is part of a network that emphasizes professional development, research, and advocacy to enrich the learning environments for children.
