Charles Towne Montessori goes
international
MAY
20, 2009 -- Just months after receiving international
accreditation, Charles Towne Montessori School spent
a week learning about world culture. Students took that
knowledge and animated it into a musical performance,
followed by a community dinner featuring international
dishes on May 7.
Our students have been preparing for weeks,
said Edward Jackson, head of the school and director
of the performance. While theyll have fun
singing in Spanish, German, and other languages, theyre
also learning about global diversity and our place in
the international community.
The performance featured elaborate costumes and music
from all over the world. The International Feast, consisting
of ethnic dishes contributed by our families followed
the performance.
The school was awarded reaccredidation by Association
Montessori Internationale in January, making it the
only school in South Carolina with such a distinction.
AMI-recognized schools like ours at the primary
and elementary levels represent only about 70 of the
5,600 or so Montessori schools in the United States,
Jackson says. AMI teachers like ours at Charles
Towne Montessori receive the most intensive and comprehensive
Montessori training in the world. AMI schools are also
thoroughly examined to insure that the school provides
a high quality, authentic Montessori education.
OUR
MISSION: Charles Towne Montessori School fosters a passion
for learning and the development of the whole child
by challenging children's intellects, promoting their
independence and inspiring curiosity.
